SAVVY. Tattoos, cats and sculptural rings.

Have you ever wondered about the road a ring must take before it can make a pretty bling-bling on your finger? 😉 It doesn’t just fall down from the sky right to the polished display case in the store, which you’re quite aware of, wise Magpie. Well… It starts its journey in the mind of a designer. And today I’m going to tell you about a designer and about one aspect of such journey. Let’s focus on Aleksandra Górecka, who designs under the brand SAVVY. We enter Ola’s (Polish diminutive of the name Aleksandra) apartment and start looking around. Amazing graphic arts of students of Arts Colleges on the walls, three wonderful cats nuzzling at our feet, besides lies a pile of various drawers ornamented by Ola, prepared for a designer set of drawers… Katarzyna takes out the camera, green teas are brewed, let’s move to the studio.

Appreciate the handmade.

I start of course from trying on SAVVY rings. I greedily put on the minimalistic ones, the ones with coastal gems, oh, and the ones with crystals… Aaah! I don’t have enough fingers for them all. Their texture is alluring, each detail left by the hands of the designer – because they’re not polished to a shiny surface. Most designers put out clean collections with selling potential. Meanwhile, Ola’s projects are massive, raw and have a sculptural character. Where does she get it from? Ola has a talent to sense the boarder between the modern form and the spirit of artistic jewelry, which is why the rings don’t bear the mark of “root crfts.” 😉 You know what I mean? Ola’s designs did not stop in time (which unfortunately tends to happen – even with respected, great jewelers) – her bling perfectly fits the current trends. 😉

Sculptors don’t have pretty nails…

Ola’s first projects were created during her studies in a sculpture studio. Her friends from fashion encouraged her to show them off at their stand during Fashion Fair. As you can imagine, they sold out in no time. 😉 Two years has passed since then. Today, Aleksandra has her own studio full of tolls and open projects, and her brand is becoming more and more recognized on the Polish market. However, some things haven’t changed. She still starts each project from sculpting in wax, gets moved by sculptures of Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini, and still has her incredible tattoos. 😉

Passion and ideal – more important than the best studio.

Why is SAVVY worth having in your collection? The rings are far from the commercial dullness. To me, they’re the perfect answer to the over-satiety and repeating patters. Each model, which leaves Aleksandra’s studio is like a tiny sculpture, which you buy to wear, not look at in a museum. 😉 When you meet Ola during spring fairs (follower her website to know where) she will gladly tell you how she creates them. How she starts her work with wax sculpting, later she casts in brass and then she works on every element with her own hands. She’s aware of her abilities, so she keeps deepening her jewelry craftsmanship. Thanks to her research, she hasn’t lost her individual style and character – for which she gets extra points from Magpies! 😉
