Jewelry in… the Louvre

This time we are going to a place that is the must see in every guide. We are in the Louvre. But not many people is aware that you can see the Department of Decorative Arts here. The museum has an exceptionally varied collection containing jewelry, silverware, enamels, bronzes, stones and furniture dating from the early Middle Ages to the first half of the 19th century.

The collection is comprised mostly of donations from the friends of the Louvre. The locals call this place a home for masterpieces. Among them there are many royal trinkets which belonged to Paris ruling families. We were amazed by an uncommon diamond, Regent (discovered in 17th century), which was set in several royal crowns and still is considered one of the most beautiful diamonds in the world.
