SIAN – SCULPTURAL FINE JEWELLERY AT THE INTERSECTION OF ART AND ARCHITECTURE

1. You have such a distinctive approach to jewelry design – blending algorithms with both digital and analog techniques. Could you walk us through how the digital side of your process works?

SIAN: At SIAN, we see technology not as a tool but as a creative collaborator. Our process begins with algorithmic design, using parametric design software to explore intricate geometries and organic structures that would be nearly impossible to conceive by hand. This approach enables us to generate forms inspired by natural systems – shapes that feel both sculptural and dynamic. Each piece is developed

within a virtual 3D space, where we sculpt and refine the composition like an architect shaping a structure. We apply mathematical logic to shape the form, balancing precision with careful and deliberate refinement. This balance between digital exactness and conceptual clarity defines our design language. Once the virtual model is complete, it becomes the blueprint for physical realization. It’s this fusion of digital vision and artisanal touch that defines our approach to contemporary fine jewellery.

2. How do you transform the virtual models into physical jewels? Does traditional goldsmithing still play a role?

SIAN: Once a digital design is refined, each object is 3D printed layer by layer using a special wax, creating a highly detailed prototype. This wax positive is then encased in fine gypsum to form a mold. Through the ancient method of lost-wax casting, the wax and plaster are lost in the process, allowing molten precious metal to be poured into the cavity left behind. After casting, each piece undergoes meticulous hand-finishing and polishing to bring out its unique character and refine its surface. We believe that this fusion of cutting-edge digital innovation and skilled craftsmanship results in jewellery that is both precise and soulful – where technology and human touch come together seamlessly.

3. It’s fascinating that the complex geometry of your designs also feels organic and alive. In what ways does nature inspire your work?

SIAN: Nature is our blueprint. We’re constantly inspired by the underlying systems that shape the natural world – how leaves arrange themselves in Fibonacci spirals, how coral branches grow in recursive patterns, how dunes and waves form through repetition and flow, how termite mounds self-regulate temperature through natural ventilation logic, or how the movement of flocking birds and schooling fish follows decentralized, rule-based behavior. Even the veins of a leaf mirror the logic of optimal distribution. These processes follow inherent rules – algorithms of growth, adaptation, and balance – that resonate deeply with our own generative design approach. These phenomena speak a silent geometry that we aim to translate into form through our pieces. While our designs may appear intricate, they’re always grounded in something elemental and intuitive – capturing the way nature builds complexity from simplicity, with elegance, logic, and purpose.

4. As you design and bring SIAN pieces to life, who do you see them adorning? How would you describe the spirit, style, and energy of the person who wears your jewelry?

SIAN: The SIAN wearer is someone who sees jewelry not only as decoration, but as expression. They’re drawn to quiet strength, sculptural elegance, and thoughtful design. Their style is considered, modern, and effortlessly individual – never loud, but always powerful. There’s a curiosity in them – a love for form, for detail, for objects with depth and story. We see them as architects of their own aesthetic world.

5. On your IG feed, you quoted Leonardo da Vinci’s words: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” With this in mind, what does luxury mean to you?

SIAN: For us, luxury is not about excess, but essence – the clarity of an idea, the perfection of a curve, the subtle strength of a material sculpted with intention and care. Simplicity is not minimalism for its own sake, but the result of a deliberate reduction to the essentials. True luxury is quiet, enduring, and deeply personal. It reveals itself in the details you come to notice over time – not just at first glance.
