FEATHERS. A MICROTREND

When you think of jewelry, you probably imagine cold metal and shiny gem stones. And as much as we love that glimmer more than anything else, there is one thing in the world of jewelry that both charms with its softness, and is impresses like none other. It is feathers. Despite their fragility, with a proper setting they can become the most robust element of your outfit. It is quite a feat to feature them properly. It takes imagination and skilled hands. Two factors that the Mike Joseph Jewelry team is never short of.

At the age of 21, he completely lost himself in a passion. The love of diamonds absorbed him and for years on he did everything to get to know the uncommonly magnificent material better. He would polish his skills by the side of many masters to find out as much as possible about diamond framing. Once he decided that he was ready to advance from an apprentice to a master himself, he opened an atelier together with his brother Joseph. This is the short story of Mike Saatji, the person behind the success of Mike Joseph Jewelry.  Some of the best brands in the world quickly became his clients. He won first place in the ‘Gold Jewelry Below $20,000’ category at the prestigious Couture Design Awards competition in Las Vegas. Since then Mike Joseph Jewelry has been consistently proving their virtuosity and precision work, receiving many well-deserved awards each year.

Feathers collection

The Mike Joseph Jewelry brand is renowned for jewelry of linear, flowing shapes and hallmark elements that bring collections together. The inspiration comes from nature. Mike Saatji stresses that nature is his most perfect muse. He transforms its imperfections into fortes and he reproduces the tiniest details in jewelry that delight the connoisseurs. No wonder he decided to use the lightness of feathers in his work. Mike Joseph Jewelry’s first approach to that was to create the Feathers collection. It resulted in 10 dazzling designs in pink gold, including necklaces and earrings that combined aerodynamic shapes inspired by nature and the company of diamonds.

To start high fashion

Feathers are back in his atelier this year, but in an even more organic edition. His Flamingo Choker emerged as a true star of this year’s Las Vegas Couture Design Awards, taking first prize for the best jewelry of the event. The combination of pearls and impressive pink feathers is stunning, but also quite uncommon in luxurious jewelry, which focuses on the abundancy of gemstones. Mike Joseph Jewelry, however, likes to smash paradigms and dazzle.

– ‘I don’t believe people should compromise when it comes to jewelry. Designs in High Jewelry should be as bold, flexible and revealing; just like the people and the clothing they will adorn. It is, however, often perceived as something that must remain unchanged from one season to the next, which suppresses the creative expression of the user. Personally, I always like to challenge myself and my team to come up with something unexpected, which will make our brains buzz and our hearts beat like a manic,’ – says Talin Saatji from Mike Joseph Jewelry.

The victory of feathers

Let’s take a look at the winning design, which announces the triumphant return of feathers. Pink feathers, pearls and diamonds create a lively and very luxurious composition. Because Mike Joseph Jewelry despises boredom in its projects, the Flamingo choker also contains a surprise. The feathers can be removed to customize the jewelry to the user’s current needs. Still, it is in the set with pink feathers that the necklace looks the most beautiful.

– ‘Feathers give the jewelry a flowy, poetic appearance. They are a clever twist that has every styling gaining elegance,’ – adds Talin.
