Dorota Tomaszewska. Jewelry like from Joan Miro’s paintings.

Dou you have your rituals when you get up in the morning? Joan Miro had his fixed plan of the day. He got up at six o’clock, drank his coffee, ate a few slices of bread. He went to the studio and worked non-stop to 12. His daily schedule always included physical exercises – box, swimming, running on the beach. In the lunchtime he would smoke several cigarettes and take a nap…

Why am I telling you this? Because Dorota Tomaszewska’s jewelry looks like cut out straight from this Catalan artist’s paintings.

It started with her diploma project on Academy of fine Arts in Lodz, Poland. Inspired with Joan Miro’s painting and sculpture she designed her first jewelry collection. She expanded it after defending the diploma. She perfected the designs (e.g. by reducing the size of rings, which initially were thicker and bigger).

Dorota doesn’t design under pressure of selling trends. Thus her projects are far from design surfeit that can be found everywhere. She is active and lives her life to the fullest not bothering with obstacles! On her webpage, here, you’ll find many propositions which will help you stand out. Trust me, I know what I’m talking about.

Dorota’s workshop is located at her family home in Lodz. It is where she designs and makes jewelry with the use of traditional goldsmith techniques. Every piece is soldered, riveted and polished by hand. Dorota was born and raised in New York, so she was surrounded by exceptional artists and design since childhood.

Which Miro would you welcome in you jewelry box? I got crazy about the earrings. Two pairs found home with me for good – they are big and original. Simplified and beautiful in their form. Some of the elements move in the ears when we move. It gives me whole lot of fun. It’s Christmas soon. It’s not hard to guess what present I’ll give to myself. 14
