“After work I don’t talk about work” – a day with Jacek Ostrowski and his works.

We met Jacek Ostrowski at the Ambermart 2015 Amber Fair. To get to him and say: “Hi, we are Magpies” we had to get through a flock of other ladies trying on with delight the new rings with Swarovski Elements crystals and Baltic amber.

Then there came other and other jewelry fairs and the situation repeated – the incredible power of attraction, and not only by large crystals – shining so attractively – worked again. I’ll tell you, Magpie, what it is all about. Jacek is not standing there, stiff and boring the visitors with the same old talk and designs. He has natural energy and charisma, what makes it difficult to leave him without at least one piece. –”My clients are awesome. It’s them who give me the energy and show me the right direction. I design, but I do it for them and they probably feel that and that’s why they come back….” And there’s the JOY LINE collection – where each of the rings is designed in such a way that they can be combined and the colors can be mixed. This element of fun is a perfect magnet for every Magpie.

The Big Ring in German Vogue, participation in exhibitions in Poland („Three in One”, individual exhibition, Skałeczna 5 Gallery in Cracow) and abroad („Natural, Mystic, Avant-Garde”. He gets up at 07:30 a.m…

eats breakfast with his little daughter and takes her to the kindergarten. Then he goes to the workshop where he makes a large coffee to get him going. Then office work – anwering emails, realization of orders, sending the jewelry to clients. It’s not all, though. Jacek is doing many things at the same time and he doesn’t mind a bit of chaos because, as he says, nice things come out of it. “In fact projects are created very spontaneously. Something comes to my mind and I sketch it on paper or make it right away in metal.” Of course it’s all done together with his employees. And after work? He doesn’t speak about work then…

I cannot sit in one place too long.

Idleness drives him crazy. Ostrowski unwinds in garage, where at the moment he is re-constructing a motorbike and adjusting a ’87 BMW to cafe racer. He is also very keen on kite surfing. He’s been doing it for 10 years. He is also crazy about watches. “Watches… they really are the only jewelry for a guy.” He began by setting a 40 year old automatic mechanism from his late grandfather … and sent it to a competition. I will not leave you in suspense. Of course you guessed that the verdict was in his favor. Winning gave him a kick, so he has designed and produced a whole series of watches. “For now, I treat them much as a hobby, and when done, they lie in “the drawer” but maybe soon they will see the daylight. “
