OPENING OF THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY JEWELRY IN WARSAW
The constant struggle for subsidies, the hope for municipal sponsorship, and the contributions coming from your own pocket… The jewelry business sounds like a rough way to make a living, but one group of artists didn’t give up. They took matters into their own hands and started running their own museum on Saturday.
They gave themselves the green light: ‘My dream is for people to recognize the names of jewelry artists by looking at their works, just like they recognize paintings, sculptures or applied arts pieces,’ says Museum originator Marcin Tymiński, President of the Goldsmithing Artists` Association and Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Design Promotion.
There are more people behind the creation of this place. A jewelry team of Monika Szpatowicz, Zbigniew Kraska and Andrzej Kupniewski opened the wonderful Museum of Contemporary Jewelry. It aims at bringing together the goldsmiths’ community and presenting the most interesting works of artistic jewelry to public at large. They intend to organize meetings with artists, lectures, and goldsmithing workshops.
Currently, the Museum hosts several dozen works by artist members of the Goldsmithing Artists` Association (Andrzej Szadkowski, Sława Tchórzewska and Paweł Kaczyński), as well as other creators both from Poland and abroad (including Alberto Dávila Quesada from Mexico, the recipient of the Main Prize, the Amberif Design Award 2019: Kairos).
We’ll keep you up to date on the Museum’s event calendar, Magpie. And in the meantime, fingers crossed for this terrific initiative.
