It’s Showtime!
The Golden Age of Hollywood, the greatest cinema blockbusters and musicals – all in all, glitz and glam. That pretty much sums up the latest collection of Gucci SS19. Created by Alessandro Michele, the campaign, above all, serves as a great throw-back to anything and everything associated with showbusiness: tassels, sequins, furs, loud forms and colors. There is no room for modesty here – and the Gucci spring / summer campaign is a genuine feast for the eyes and … ears.
The brand’s creative director, Alessandro Michele and photographer Glen Luchford, derive plenty of inspiration from the most famous of musicals, offering references to such iconic productions as ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,’ ‘An American in Paris,’ ‘Cover Girl,’ ‘Singing in the Rain,’ and ‘The Band Wagon.’ The looks they feature are supposed to evoke the magical era of the brightest Hollywood stars such as Marylin Monroe or Fred Astaire. It’s little wonder that glitz and glam encapsulated in jewelry complete the designer’s dream. For the new season Gucci reveals diamond tiaras, oversized necklaces, serpentine bracelets and a high gloss. In this case, the good news for every Magpie is that the less-is-more rule does not apply. Forget about minimalism.
Predators and cherries
Alessandro Michele is here to convince you that a monumental diamond necklace (you’ve seen the glare, haven’t you?) does not clash with a massive necklace of golden cherries. The fauna and flora patterns are quite desirable. We found it hard to take our eyes off the serpent bracelets: the antiqued gold one richly studded with blue and green crystals, and the palladium finish one with green crystals and tiger heads hidden between the scales. The tiger motif, characteristic of the brand, appears in the necklaces and bags, too, where the big cats hold crystals gleaming in ruby red between their jaws.
A spectacle of exaggeration
You must check out the tiara that seems as opulent as the grandeur of the Great Gatsby. If you don’t happen to have a tiara at hand, you can easily replicate the look by inserting shiny clips with imitation crystals into your hair; the bigger the better. The Gucci look contains a playful exaggeration: artificial pink fur and the impressive oversize necklace mentioned above, or strawberry print pants combined with jewelry studded sneakers. A visual spectacle Gucci style.
Sporty glam
Jewelry sneakers are a trend that you should take a closer look at anyway, because recently streetwear has been stealing the limelight. In this campaign, Gucci dressed his classic 70’s style sneakers in detachable golden cherries adorned with crystals, recurrent throughout the SS19 campaign. This is yet one more piece of proof that the opposites attract and a pinch of luxury in the everyday life can boost the character of the Magpies’ styled appearances. To feel that magic of the Hollywood era, just go for it, and play with Gucci-style jewelry.
