Brilliant Bharat – A Preview of the 41st IIJS Premiere in India

It’s the second-largest gathering of the jewelry world, and it’s about to sparkle brighter than ever. On July 30, 2025, the 41st edition of the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS Premiere) will open its doors. Think over 2,100 exhibitors, more than 50,000 visitors, and endless showcases spread across two colossal convention centers in Mumbai. Let’s not even try to count the carats. All of it wrapped in the captivating allure of Indian culture under the banner of “Brilliant Bharat,” a project celebrating thousands of years of jewelry heritage.

The numbers speak for themselves—thousands of brands and businesses, tens of thousands of buyers, guests, and journalists. This scale hardly comes as a surprise, given India’s sheer power in the global jewelry sector. The country is the world’s second-largest consumer of gold and jewelry, just after China (a phenomenon we’ll be unpacking in depth in future features around IIJS). In recent years, India’s jewelry and gemstone exports have ranged between 25 and 39 billion dollars annually. The sector contributes a staggering 7% to the national GDP, with the Indian government actively fueling its growth. At the heart of this ecosystem stands GJEPC (Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council), the driving force behind the show in Mumbai.

Bharat – The Brilliance of Culture

India proudly lays claim to one of the richest—and quite literally most dazzling—jewelry traditions on the planet. IIJS Premiere exists to showcase this legacy and share India’s creative spirit with the world. “Brilliant Bharat” is an initiative designed to weave an engaging narrative around the event and spark fresh inspiration among local jewelry makers. A series of IIJS’s editions has been infused with a theme highlighting essential facets of Indian culture. This year, the spotlight falls on Indian architecture. Designers and brands are invited to craft pieces inspired by awe-inspiring structures: monumental temples, the grand façades of royal palaces, filigree details, and sculptural flourishes. At IIJS, we’ll witness the mastery of artisans and dive into a universe of symbols, legends, and historical and spiritual references—all translated into the language of jewellery.

Destination: Mumbai

The IIJS Premiere agenda is so expansive it needs two massive venues: the Jio World Convention Centre and the Bombay Exhibition Centre. Inside, you’ll discover dedicated zones for diamond and gemstone jewelry, gold collections, lab-grown diamonds, pavilions showcasing global brands, live demonstrations of cutting-edge jewelry machinery—and, for magpies like me who can never get enough sparkle—The Select Club, the ultimate high-end couture enclave. To say I can’t wait to head to Mumbai would be an understatement. #staytuned—expect shimmering coverage and plenty of stories as we explore Bharat’s Brilliance together.
