HOGGING THE LIMELIGHT
She is all about a happy and enthusiastic way of life. Always cheerful and energetic – you gotta love it! To be honest, she is a little materialistic, but we know there’s nothing wrong with that, right Magpies? Who are we talking about? The Pig, of course! She is the shining star of the Chinese New Year we celebrated on 5th February. To mark the occasion, many brands chose to create unique items to prove that the Pig too can shine.
The Winged Pig
In China, the pig is a symbol of prosperity, so it seems well worth joining the celebrations by inviting the likeable animal into your jewelry box. No wonder that many global brands’ collections are full of pigs at their best. Let Givenchy and its “Flying Pig Capsule Collection” serve as an example. The Collection includes a necklace and steel bracelet, decorated with a piglet. The flying pig appears also in Gucci’s “Three Little Pigs”. The collection features not only sweaters and purses, but also a real treat for every Magpie: a pink resin brooch depicting a flying pig. The mother of pearl effect makes the brooch look fabulous with both a plain t-shirt and an elegant jacket.

Pig time!
If a brooch was not enough, Gucci also offers a watch with bits of yellow gold, a red face and the image of Disney’s Three Little Pigs. Chopard too placed their bets on a watch. It is an elegant 18-carat pink gold timepiece with a crocodile leather strap and intricate ornaments in the Japanese craft style of Urushi. This miniature work of art is valued at almost 100 000 PLN, which is still nothing compared to the 250 000 PLN you’d need to pay for the Piaget “Altiplano” watch from the “Possession” collection. It is adorned with cloisonné enamel by Anita Porchet and a diamond frame of white gold. Fortunately, there are cheaper ways to celebrate the Year of the Pig.

The many faces of Hog
A peek into Pandora’s stores will suffice. They have created pig charms in two color versions: gold and silver; as well as a subtle bracelet with a red leather strap and a silver pendant. The more extravagant Magpies will love the Solange Azagura-Partridge ring, which completes a fantastic collection of the Oriental Zodiac. A simple ring made of yellow 18-carat gold features a varnished pink piglet with golden eyes and a pig tail. Another irresistible work is the set of mismatched Mr Pig earrings from Tessa Packard. Onyx, obsidian, white gold, pink quartz, porcelain and the pugnacious hog accumulate to an accessory that is both unorthodox and extremely chic. Who would have thought that a seemingly ordinary pig can present itself in such a beautiful rendition? It will be a happy year for Magpies.
