Let’s Meet at Milano Jewelry Week 2024
Fall is an intense season of sparkling travels for yours truly! This October, Milano Jewelry Week has been added to the star-marked dates in my calendar—a unique jewelry event that feels more like a biennale or cultural festival than a typical business fair. MJW is a celebration of artistic expression, design mastery, and emerging talent. The creative buzz and beautiful event locations provide the perfect backdrop for making new connections and collaborations. Who will I see in Milan?
The spirit of Milano Jewelry Week is infused with the elegant vibe typical of this famous European fashion capital. The event’s setting is “molto chic,” just like the stylish residents of Milano. This year’s MJW, taking place from October 15-20, is spread across the city center. During my last visit, I felt more like I was on a museum and art gallery tour than at a stiff B2B event.
Jewelry in a Palace
The highlight of MJW for your certified magpie-sculptor (yes, I have a Master’s degree in this art!) is the Artistar Jewels section. It’s an extensive showcase of the most exquisite, creative, and skillfully crafted jewelry pieces. This part of MJW is organized like an art exhibition—the display will be held in the aristocratic spaces of Palazzo Bovara. Spectacular jewelry will be showcased in glass cases, and the event will kick off with a grand opening night. The Jewelry HUB is the most trade-oriented section of MJW. It’s an opportunity for jewelry brands from around the world, representing sectors like fashion, designer, and vintage jewelry, to present their new collections. I’m particularly excited about visiting the Talent Show exhibitions. This showcase of young talents’ jewelry will take place at the prestigious Galdus vocational school, which trains future goldsmiths and jewelry designers.
Sparkling Exploration
The event will culminate with the MJW Awarding Night, where awards will be given to jewelry creators in categories such as BEST EXCLUSIVE JEWELRY DESIGNER, BEST IN CREATIVITY, and BEST INNOVATIVE DESIGN. The winners will be selected by an expert jury, including connoisseurs, designers, professors, and my wonderful colleague in the field, Laura aka Donna Jewel. MJW also offers the possibility for brands and producers to include their independently organized events in the official agenda. For “small players” with limited budgets, this is a great option for unconventional promotion. For MJW visitors, it offers the chance to explore interesting corners of Milan: goldsmith workshops, niche showrooms, local manufactories, boutiques, or art galleries.
