Luxury on the Bay – A Preview of Jewellery Arabia 2024
My glittering autumn calendar is bursting at the seams, but this invitation was one I simply had to respond to with a resounding, enthusiastic YES! This November, I will be visiting Bahrain for the first time to attend the region’s most prestigious jewelry event – Jewellery Arabia. An event open to all enthusiasts of brilliance and beauty, showcasing a dimension of luxury that is truly a rare encounter.
Usually, I share my adventures at industry fairs across Europe, Asia, and the USA. Jewellery Arabia, however, stands in a league of its own. This is an event tailored directly for the clientele of jewelry brands. The exhibitions are open to the public, free of charge; all you need to do is register in advance via their website. It’s an experience that’s hard to put into words: imagine stepping into the world’s largest boutique filled with the most luxurious jewelry. It’s no coincidence that this event is held in the heart of the Persian Gulf.
A Sparkle Worth Millions
Last year’s edition of Jewellery Arabia drew over 43,000 visitors. In just five days, attendees made glittering purchases totaling nearly 70 million dollars! For an average magpie, these numbers are indeed staggering. However, these statistics are not a mere anomaly but a real reflection of the purchasing power of the Gulf region’s residents. The luxury goods market in the Middle East has been seeing almost double-digit growth every year, with jewelry being a central element in this landscape. While locals are eager attendees of the exhibition, visitors from neighboring countries – Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, and Qatar – will also flock to Bahrain from November 26th to 30th. And what about the exhibitors? These impressive figures regarding attendance and sales act as a magnet for the most exclusive brands. The dazzling showcase at Jewellery Arabia is the crème de la crème of the jewelry world: from grand Parisian jewelry houses to independent designers redefining modern luxury. The primary goal of the organizers is to provide guests access to the latest collections from brands and designers that are otherwise not available in their country or region.
What’s New: The International Designers Pavilion
Jewellery Arabia has been organized since 1992, and the event creators continue to surprise participants with new features and an ever-elevating standard of the showcase. The team is also very proud of their sustainability initiatives which include environmental projects such as sustainable stands but also having a diverse panel at the Diamond Talks stage, supporting local and regional artists through a brand new Gallery and much more. This year, another new and exciting highlight is making its debut: the International Designers Pavilion supporting smaller designers to launch into the Middle East and Bahrain market in a cost effective way. Maria Sidiropoulou, Exhibition Director at Informa Markets, shared the concept of this section with me: “It offers a fresh perspective on jewellery. Visitors will experience a range of styles and innovations, from contemporary pieces to fine luxury, all while engaging with international talent. This pavilion provides a unique opportunity to see and purchase items that are truly different and not readily available in local stores.” Only a few brands will present in the International Designers Pavilion, a rare distinction and an unparalleled chance to make a debut in such a promising market, offering the opportunity to showcase their collections directly to clients with a taste for luxury and brilliance. Sounds prestigious, right? Now, here’s a surprise: presenting in this new section at Jewellery Arabia is the most cost effective way to participate as it comes at an introductory one time only price as package including the stand and print of your artwork. You just bring your jewellery and you are ready to sell! As Maria confided, a few spots are still available, so to all brand owners reading this – apply now by contacting the team on sales@jewelleryarabia.com!
The Land of Pearl Divers
When I asked Maria Sidiropoulou what luxury means to her, she replied, “Luxury is about the experience and the quality behind it. It’s not just about opulence; it’s about finding something unique and meaningful, whether that’s a beautifully crafted piece of jewelry or a serene moment at a picturesque location.” This sentiment resonates deeply with me. As much as I look forward to the luxurious jewelry within the halls of Jewellery Arabia, I’m equally thrilled to explore Bahrain and discover the charms of this desert island. Maria revealed some of her favorite spots in the area, including the monumental Bahrain Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This isn’t the only attraction in the country with such status. The Pearling Path – a complex of buildings and locations in the historic part of Muharraq (the former capital of Bahrain) linked to the local pearl diving tradition – is also on UNESCO’s list. The island was once renowned for extracting these exceptional treasures from the Gulf. To say I can’t wait is an understatement!
