Jewellery and the Music of India – A Cultural Symphony at IIJS Premiere 2026
IIJS Premiere, the world’s second-largest B2B jewellery trade show, is far more than a business platform or a conventional industry fair. From 5–10 August 2026, under the “Brilliant Bharat” initiative, the organisers will invite exhibitors and visitors to celebrate India’s cultural heritage, creating a unique fusion of tradition, art, craftsmanship, luxury, and innovation. The central theme of the 42nd edition of the show will be the music of India.
The primary mission of IIJS Premiere, the vast jewellery fair held in Mumbai, is to promote India’s jewellery industry and local manufacturers on the global stage. Yet the vision pursued by GJEPC goes much deeper. Through the “Brilliant Bharat” project (Bharat being the Sanskrit name for India), every edition is built around a theme rooted in the country’s traditions and regions, demonstrating how culture inspires the evolution of craftsmanship, design, and jewellery manufacturing. Last year, I had the opportunity to experience this concept firsthand, as IIJS explored the theme of Indian architecture, showing how iconic temples, palaces, and historic buildings inspire jewellery designers. In 2024, the show’s visual identity celebrated India’s rich textile traditions. The idea that different expressions of culture and heritage are interconnected rather than existing as separate disciplines is one that resonates deeply with me, and I cannot wait to discover the next chapter of this story – this time through the lens of music.

A Brilliant Melody
“Jewellery, much like music, is composed of emotion, precision, rhythm, and timeless tradition. Every gemstone reflects a note. Every ornament carries a rhythm. Every creation tells a story,” write the organisers of IIJS in the introduction to this year’s edition. Music, like jewellery, is an organic part of India’s identity. It is woven into everyday life, celebration, joy, spirituality, and sorrow alike. Within music converge the essential ideas that define Indian culture: “prana”, the soul, the breath, the creative energy of life; “rasa”, emotion, feeling, and human experience; “swar”, melody and the sounds from which harmony, design, and storytelling emerge; “kaal”, time, the rhythm of tradition connecting generations; and “nada”, cosmic vibration, the universal expression of beauty. These same concepts can just as easily be applied to the world of jewellery – when searching for rhythm, describing composition, and above all, speaking about the emotions that accompany its creation, gifting, and wearing. The musical theme of IIJS Premiere provides an opportunity to celebrate the richness of India’s artistic ecosystem while giving the events in Mumbai a deeper cultural dimension.
A Concert of Creativity
The theme “Brilliant Bharat: Music of India” will resonate throughout this year’s show in many different forms: interactive exhibitions and installations, visual storytelling, and, finally, the Jewellery Crafts Design Competition, the flagship design contest for exhibitors at IIJS Premiere 2026. Designers and brands participating in the fair are invited to create a finished jewellery piece inspired by the show’s musical theme. Their inspiration may come from the mystical melodies of ”raga”, folk traditions, devotional music, traditional instruments, or contemporary sounds. The shortlisted creations will be showcased in the Brilliant Bharat Gallery during the exhibition, where an expert jury will select the three winners. I cannot wait to admire the craftsmanship and creativity of the participants and, above all, to experience the magic of music, jewellery, and Indian culture at IIJS Premiere. See you in Mumbai!
