You won’t find the hot trends at the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair. But you will find earrings woven from gold by hand, a sizeable necklace about the weight of a bag of sugar, and some very traditional patterns. All that in a space adorned by thousands of pieces of foil suspended on strings. The effect is absolutely marvelous. I am enjoying the Fair for another reason as well. It’s not just the awe of the traditional goldsmiths’ virtuosity, but also the young designers who’ve impressed me. I would like to show you their work. So today instead of reading, we’ll have lots of pictures. Nothing does a Magpie good as much as a healthy batch of sparkly inspiration, right?
