What’s going on in Paris …

We have reached Galerie Résidences, it is a fresh place on the map of Paris, it’s only two years old. It was created by jewelry designer Aude Medori to promote artistic jewels in Paris. And she succeeded! She has united the designers dealing with jewelry, fashion and art. In one space. Interesting fact is that…

Every six months a different artist becomes a resident of Galerie Résidences (i.e. Stella Bierrenbach, Camille Moncomble, Nathalie Perret and Laurence Verdier). Each of them manages the gallery and organizes interesting events that allow the visitors to get to know the creators.

We were welcomed by a young artist. He was slightly shy… Well, no surprise here. All in all, he was hemmed by two inquisitive Magpies asking many questions. He showed us his works and talked us into seeing an interesting exhibition: What This Artist Does with Scars Is Beautiful, by Helena Gugenheim, about which I will tell you briefly.

According to Gugenheim each body tells a story. We live the whole life in one body – we are not able to exchange or sell it. At the same time all imperfections and scars are the narration of our story…

Each of the project participants has to undress completely when entering the artist’s studio. When they break the barrier of shame, the Goldsmith covers their scars with gold leaves. After the action is complete she removes the gold and puts it in a container (with participant’s name and date of the performance) Then a completely different look at the scar is born, because the performer believes that gold has healing properties…
